Fruits and vegetables - Canada will be more flexible about pesticide residues
Ottawa wants hamoniser its regulations with those of U.S.
More for less pesticide violations and obstacles to international trade. The federal government plans to increase the acceptable limit of residual chemicals on hundreds of fruits and vegetables sold in Canada.
The measure is widely opposed by environmental groups, aims to bring Canadian standards into line with U.S. regulations on pesticides, health authorities said. This is for primarily commercial reasons.
