THE GREAT MARKET April 22, 2007 At 13:30 MONTREAL Lafontaine Park (corner Calixa Lavallée and Rachel)
A little history ...
Years 70: Scientists are seeing a steady increase and abnormal temperatures on the planet.
1997: The Kyoto Protocol was signed by various countries, including Canada, the fight against global warming. His goals do not succeed in that 10% of the work required to stabilize the climate. Kyoto is a small first step.
2001: The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) concluded that warming warming is indeed real and likely caused by human activity.
2002: Members of the National Assembly, unanimous vote a resolution urging Quebec to achieve the Kyoto Protocol.
2006: Scientists are launching a serious warning: we must now liberate ourselves from our dependence on fossil fuels if the climate is likely to disrupt irreversibly endanger the future of the human species and thousands of others species. We are talking about mass extinction.
2006: The report by Sir Nicholas Stern, former chief economist of the Bank World, explains that the economic costs of inaction on global warming will be comparable to those of the two great wars and the crisis of 1929 combined!
February 2007: The last IPCC report concludes that global warming is worse than expected and definitely due to human activity.
AND TO THIS DAY, WE ARE NOT YET AWARDED TO ACTION!
In Quebec: contrary to what the government says it has been proved that the Quebec plan will not achieve the Kyoto targets, far from it!
In Ottawa: not only the Conservative government renounce our obligations to Kyoto, but he intends to allow major polluters to increase their emissions by more than 40% by 2020, a true crime against the planet!
therefore be held in Montreal, April 22, Earth Day, the great march entitled "Kyoto for a Cure" initiated by the Coalition Québec-Vert-Kyoto.
Kyoto is a first important step to create hope, especially among youth, dismayed by the current inaction of adults.
